Chiku and Sonu were very hungry that evening. They had not eaten anything since morning. All the people in the street were just passing by ignoring their plea for some money or food. Nobody paid any heed to them. Their parents were begging somewhere else in that street leaving them behind on their own. What choice did they have? It was a bad day and they thought that they might have to sleep hungry in the night.
It was a busy street market bustling with people. Numerous people were there but not a single person to give food to those two hungry kids. They were barefoot, their clothes were dirty, torn from some places too and their hair were messy. People were looking at them with disdain, barely saving themselves from their touch. The saddest part was that everyone was mistaking their desperation with greed.
Tired, Chiku and Sonu sat on the pavement still hopeful and begging for food and money. They were sitting in the front of a very popular bakery that always smelled of fresh loaves of bread and cakes. Every time someone opened the door of the shop, the heavenly whiff of fresh bakes made both of them hungrier. They stood in front of the door hoping that someone might give them something to eat, even if it was half-eaten and leftover.
The chaperon pushed those kids away from the door and scolded them. They stood in front of the glass wall of the shop from where they were looking inside the shop still hopeful. Anyone who passed by that glass wall could clearly see the gorgeous display of the most beautiful looking bakes, cakes and desserts. The kids were watching intently. Their stomachs were rumbling with hunger.
After some time they saw a girl inside. She was wearing a white chef coat and a chef hat. She had the sweetest and the kindest smile. She had cupcake trays in her hands which she kept on a table. Then, she picked up a basket that had cones filled with coloured icing and kept it near the cupcakes. On the counter, there were bowls and all sorts of tools.
That girl picked a cupcake tray and started taking them out on the counter one by one. It was the prettiest sight for those two innocent hungry kids. The kids were so engrossed in watching that they forgot about going back to their parents. That girl in the bakery noticed them standing out of the shop but didn’t pay any attention.
That girl picked a few cones of different colours and kept them aside. She bent down on the table and took a closer look at the cupcakes. Then she picked a cone and started decorating the cupcakes. She was piping out the coloured icing on the cupcakes and creating the most beautiful designs with other edible things.
After she was done decorating a few cupcakes, she looked at both the kids. She smiled at them, picked two cupcakes and walked out of the shop. She walked towards the kids and very humbly gave those cupcakes to them. Even before she could say anything, they gobbled them up.
The happiness on their faces meant a lot to her. She knew that they were hungry and desperate for food, as she was one day, a beggar, a desolate, when a kind person gave her food to eat.
