Let’s talk about the fourth W of self-love. “When The Guilt Takes Over”
Since childhood, we have been taught to keep other’s interest before ours. Over time as we mature, this gets so imbibed within us that keeping our happiness and our interests on the backburner become the way we live our life.
But the moment we do something for ourselves, we start feeling guilty. We start criticising ourselves for even the smallest thing we do to make ourselves happy. As a ripple effect, we start recalling our past mistakes. Then starts the blame game and we spend a lot of time judging ourselves and obsessing over all our wrongs.

So, how can we love ourselves without feeling any guilt?
1. Firstly, realise that all of us have some strengths and weaknesses. We are born with some and some we gain as we grow old through our life experiences. At some point in our lives, we all do mistakes and fail. Failure is a part of life. Once you accept this, you’ll stop being harsh and judgemental towards your own self.
2. Secondly, don’t set very high standards for yourself. It’s okay to have an average day or failing at something. Drop the perfectionism.
3. Lastly, treat yourself with compassion. Be kind to yourself. Instead of criticising yourself, admire yourself and breathe out the negativity.
Self-Love Exercise: Stand in front of the mirror. Hug yourself and say – “(YOUR NAME), I love you”. Look in your eyes when you do this. Say it a few times.
Do it till your mind relaxes. This exercise might be tough and require a lot of effort. You might feel overwhelmed and looking into your own eyes seem difficult. However, give it a try.
