Rahim Das, also known as Abdul Rahim Khan, was a poet in the Mughal era in India. He is widely known for his couplets, or dohe, which impart valuable life lessons. Here are some most popular Rahim ke dohe in Hindi:
रहिमन धागा प्रेम का, मत तोरो चटकाय।
टूटे पे फिर न जुरे, जुरे गाँठ परी जाय।।
Translation: “Rahim says, the thread of love should not be broken. If it breaks, it cannot be mended, as a knot cannot be tied on a broken thread.”
बिगरी बात बने नहीं, लाख करो किन कोय।
रहिमन फाटे दूध को, मथे न माखन होय।।
Translation: “A spoiled thing cannot be corrected, even if you try a hundred times. Just as milk once curdled cannot be turned back into butter.”
सबर उपजै अमर बाला, जो न चाहै सो होय।
रहिमन बड़न को चाहिए, नहिं तो छोटन होय।।
Translation: “Patience yields eternal rewards. Whatever happens is according to the will of God. Rahim says, one should aspire to be great, otherwise they will remain small.”
जहां देखूं वहीं बिके, जिस देखी बिनु पाय।
रहिमन अमीर बड़े भाई, बहुरि न होय कँहाय।।
Translation: “Everything that I see is already sold to the person who has seen it before me. Rahim says, even the wealthiest and most influential people cannot have everything they want.”
बिनु पानी, साबुन बिना, नीर उतरै बहू।
रहिमन उड़ि उड़ि जहाज पर, नाव न समाये कोय।।
Translation: “A ship cannot sail without water or soap, and a boat cannot cross the river without water. Similarly, Rahim says, a person cannot achieve their goals without the necessary tools or resources.”
