Combination and Sensitive Skincare Routine Products for Your 30s
Finding the right skincare products for combination and sensitive skin is not easy. With a wide range of products claiming to be the best for sensitive skin, it’s hard to determine which ones will work and which ones won’t.
Sensitive skin is more reactive than usual. It is easily irritated by the elements like wind, sun, heat or cold; or by topical products. Other potential triggers can include hormones, lack of sleep, and even air pollution. When exposed to one of these triggering elements, sensitive skin may burn or sting, turn red, or otherwise feel very uncomfortable.
I have the most feared skin combination – It’s the combination of oily and dry skin (combination skin) and sensitive at the same time. I have to be so precarious while choosing a skincare product. But there’s one thing that I have been following for more than a decade – a skincare routine that I follow religiously.
The best age to start having a skincare routine is from the late 20s or early 30s. Around the age of mid-30s, skin starts losing it’s elasticity and starts looking dull, blemished and starts developing wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes and lips.

Skincare Routine for Oily, Sensitive Skin
Having a skincare routine is extremely important to maintaining and improving the texture of facial skin. Whether it’s the morning or the night skincare routine, here are the steps I follow in my daily routine:
1. Cleansing: Cleansing the skin with a gentle face cleanser.
2. Toning: Cleansing is followed by toning the skin with a toner.
4. Face serum: Face serums are best for caring for ageing skin.
3. Moisturising: Lastly, moisturising using a moisturiser suitable for sensitive skin.
Use of sunscreen is highly recommended during the day. Even if you aren’t stepping out everyday, applying sunscreen protects the skin from the after-effects of sun exposure.
My Favourite Combination, Sensitive Skincare Products* Under Rs.1000
I have been using these products for over a year now and I am deeply satisfied. I have an acne-prone combination, sensitive skin with a tendency to get enlarged pores from time to time. These products have not only improved the texture of my skin but my skin feels soft and appears clear.
1) Face Cleanser
There are two face cleansers I vouch for! I keep alternating between Cetaphil and Sebamed, and both are equally good. Both were recommended by my dermatologist long back and I have been using them for years. They are simply fab!
2) Vitamin C Serum
Vitamin C Serum helps the skin to better retain moisture. It also helps in fading the pigmentation giving an even complexion. I use it in the morning. However, it can be used at both AM and PM.
3) Retinol Serum
Known for its anti-ageing properties, Retinol enhances skin tone and decreases fine lines and wrinkles. It also acts as an ultra hydration layer boosting collagen production as well as shielding the skin from environmental damage. I use it at night after cleansing but before moisturising.
4) Day Moisturiser
I love both of these! Even though RE’EQUILL that I recommended here is meant for normal to dry skin, it works perfectly well for combination skin. It doesn’t make the oily part of the face oily and keeps the dry part well moisturised. Excela is perfect for oily and sensitive skin.
5) Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a must whether you are going out or not. Just like moisturiser, sunscreen must be used everyday. Some of my favourites are listed below:
6) Night Cream
For night-time moisturisation, there are a couple of options to pick from. I would like to break a myth here that light skin oils can’t be used on oily or combination skin. Well, coconut oil is the safest oil to use on the face. It must be organic and must be applied in a little amount on the face. It’s best for anti-ageing and marks. I have used coconut oil on my face and it works magic. I still use it as a cleanser and at night sometimes.

Alongwith using the right skincare products and having a skincare routine, it’s imperative to take care of food and diet. Food plays a very important part in the way our skin behaves. Staying away from sweet, deep-fried and foods with high salt content keeps the skin clean and toxin-free.
