“One of the most important psychological factors in raising a family is giving children “voice”
I took this quite literally during the lockdown. Such is the effect of being confined indoors with kids. You discover hidden aspects of their personalities, their hidden talents, understand them better and get more familiar with their likes and dislikes.
Devyani is 8 years old and sees her friends getting active on apps like TikTok and Instagram. This pandemic has given a chance to all the kids to explore their creative sides beyond paper and colours.
Now, I am very sceptical about sharing the pictures on my children on social media. I know about the dark internet and it scares the hell out of me! What is done to the pictures of children is unspeakable.
An idea struck me when I was researching for podcasts hosted by children. I came across some podcasts for children where I heard children with beautiful voices narrating stories and books, like:
1. Baalgatha
2. Dadi Nani Ka Pitara
3. Books That Speak
However, to my surprise, there isn’t a podcast in India that’s hosted by a child. The idea clicked and voila!
When I spoke to her and asked about what she thinks about having her own show she was super thrilled. My exact words were – “What do you think about having your own podcast which is like a radio channel of your own?”
She instantly ran to her room, brought a notebook and started jotting down topics she would love to talk about. Mind you she wants to talk about everything under the sun. Such is the beauty of a child’s mind.
Introducing Hey! Mama Listen – a podcast show hosted by Devyani Dave. India’s first podcast show hosted by a child. She is also India’s first child podcaster to host a show for children!
My little girl who was blabbering a second ago has her own podcast show now. Although she is new to this, she is determined and happily learning every day, directly or indirectly – one episode at a time.
