“Grown-up, and that is a terribly hard thing to do. It is much easier to skip it and go from one childhood to another.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald
Lately, I have been spending a lot of time indoors with my kids. It has been a great experience as I get to spend the full day with my children. Playing together, e-learning together, engaging in fun activities, etc has been a great bonding experience. Not only do I teach them new things, but even I get to learn so much from my kids.
Keeping open communication and being available to them is what they need. As a parent, I need to keep a check on my responses and reactions because there will be outbursts and there will be moments when children will behave in a difficult manner. Hear them out! Always.
I have written quite a lot in the past about how important communication is and how to have an open-hearted dialogue with children. Children show so much resilience in their day to day life. They make the best use of whatever toys they have. They read the same books over and over again.
All children need, especially right now, and always, is love, attention and a happy environment at home. I am sure I am not the only one who has a hard time keeping her kids away from readymade snacks and foods. My biggest personal feat has been to be able to make them finish 1 glass of milk, daily! With PediaSure added, finishing a glass of milk is easy peasy for them.
In return, my children have also taught me so much. If you ask me -“what can children teach us in India while at home during vacation?”, my list is very long. Although parenting is subjective, how you want to bring up your children depends on a lot of external and internal factors.

What are the four life lessons my children taught me while at home?
Children are truly wise beyond their years. As we grow, our perspective gets tainted by life, unlike children whose minds are open to learning and experiencing newer things without influence. Children have a way of teaching us the essential things about life that we tend to forget as we get older.
i) One day at a time
Each day brings us something new. In a child’s mind, there is no reason to ponder over yesterday’s mistakes. They don’t care about what happened yesterday. They find joy and opportunities in the present day without sulking over yesterday.
ii) Don’t waste your time if you are not passionate about something
Since when did it become acceptable to just settle or put up with things that don’t make us happy? Children don’t waste their time on things that don’t make them feel truly happy inside. When they find those specific things or people that bring joy to their heart, they love them with all their might. Isn’t this what we should do too? We have been given this perfect opportunity to rekindle our lost hobbies and passion. It’s the right time to make the best use of our time at home.
iii) Adapt to change
Children are the true masters of adapting to change. They can move to a new house, a new school, or even a new country, and everything is okay for them! Also, children have a massive role in keeping us sane and focused.
iv) Express yourself
Children are in most cases truthful in their behaviour. When they feel happy and joyful, they jump, dance or laugh. When they feel sad and uncomfortable, they scream and burst into tears. They freely express whatever they feel, without caring about what others might think of them.
While we lose our sleep over the responsibilities of raising our children and teaching them the things we know about life, they are the ones who teach us what life is all about.
I don’t know the reason but children have this mystery called life all figured out, don’t they?
