Balancing motherhood and mental health – tricky, right? Well, not many people get it but the invisible load of motherhood surpasses what’s visible. Mothers have to remember everything related to their kids – their school, medical history, homework, hobby classes, meals and nutrition, birthday parties, etc. As a mom, it can be tough to find a balance between motherhood and self-care.
Juggling work, family, and personal time can be a challenge. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Therefore, it’s important to take care of yourself physically and your mental health. Here are some tips for finding balance and self-care for moms:
1. Make time for yourself
It’s important to make time for yourself, especially in today’s world. It’s so easy to get caught up in work, family, and social obligations that you can forget to take care of yourself. But if you don’t make time for yourself, you’ll end up feeling overwhelmed and stressed out.
One of the best ways to make time for yourself is to schedule some “me time” into your day. This could be something as simple as taking a relaxing bath, reading a book, or taking a walk in the park. Or you could use your me time to do something more active, like working out at the gym or going for a run.
Whatever you do, make sure it’s something that you enjoy and that helps you relax and rejuvenate. When you take some time for yourself, you’ll be able to better handle the demands of life.
2. Prioritize your mental health
I know that it can be hard to make time for yourself when you have a million things to do, but it’s important to find time to take care of your mental health. Make sure to schedule in some time every week to do something that relaxes you, whether that’s reading, going for a walk, or taking a yoga class. Taking care of yourself will help you be more productive and stress-free in the long run.
3. Connect with other moms
The best way to find support is to connect with other moms. Meeting up with other moms can help you feel connected and supported. It can be helpful to find a group that meets in person or to join an online forum or group.
There are many online groups available, and you can often find one that fits your needs. You can also find groups on Facebook or other social media platforms.
4. Take care of yourself
It can be easy to forget to take care of ourselves when we’re focused on taking care of others. But it’s important to make time for ourselves, too.
One easy way to make sure you’re taking care of yourself is to schedule regular breaks. Whether it’s a 10-minute break every hour, or a full day off once a week, make sure to take some time for yourself. I personally follow Pomodoro Technique which works quite well for me.
Another way to take care of yourself is to make sure you’re eating well and getting enough exercise. When we’re run down, we’re more likely to get sick. So make sure to eat healthy foods and get plenty of exercises. If you can’t find time to do a full-fledged workout, take out just 20 mins and go for a brisk walk or a slow run. Fresh air will clear your head and energize you.
And finally, make sure to get enough rest. When we’re tired, we’re more irritable and less productive. So make sure to get a good night’s sleep every night. Try to sleep at least 6-8 hours every night.
Taking care of ourselves is important, and it’s not selfish. When we’re taking care of ourselves, we’re better able to take care of others.
To conclude…
Taking care of yourself is essential for being a good mom. By making time for yourself, you’ll be able to better deal with the stresses of motherhood. These tips are just a start, so experiment and find what works best for you. You deserve it!
