Indoor games are super fun! Whether they are family games or age-specific, indoor games can be played for hours. They are super entertaining and can also help gain some knowledge or skill.
When the lockdown started, I had no idea how the kids are going to spend their day confined indoors. My kids are 4 & 8 years old and they can’t sit idle.
Besides TV and tablets, what else could keep them occupied? Indoor games.
Well, obviously, we didn’t buy them things very frequently. They already had a few of their games. We just added a few educational games which ignite their imagination and creativity.

Benefits of Playing Indoor Games
Indoor games are one of the best ways to keep the mind healthy and active. They offer a lot more than just entertainment. Playing indoor games, of any kind, grants numerous health and mental benefits.
1. Improves memory and strengthens cognitive skills
Board games or any indoor games help us to practice essential cognitive skills and enhance the parts of the brain responsible for complex thought and memory formation. Creative indoor games help the brain retain and build cognitive associations well.
2. Indoor games improve motor skills
Many board games require picking up or moving pieces. These actions require both coordination and dexterity, i.e. use of fine motor skills. Regular practice and activity improve their basic skills which are important for kids while growing up.
3. Quality time
Family indoor games are super fun and when the family plays together they are enjoyed even more. It’s a great opportunity to bond and spend quality time with family.
Indoor Games for Kids (4 -8 years) Under Rs.500
Indoor games definitely made lockdown days easier for kids. The best part about these games is that they require minimum interventions and kids can play by themselves giving us a well-deserved breather.
Here’s a list of indoor games that my kids thoroughly enjoy and they love playing these games almost daily. All of these indoor games are under INR 500 so they won’t dent your pockets.
We believe in gender neutral parenting and we encourage both of our kids to play together with each other’s games and toys.
Wooden Tetris Jigsaw Puzzle
When I bought this, I wasn’t sure whether they will like it or will be able to solve it? However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they absolutely loved it and would spend a long time together to solve it.
Solar System Jigsaw Puzzle
Both of our kids are space enthusiasts and they love space trivia, books and games. Adding one more game in their collection was only natural. They never get bored of it.
Augmented Reality Solar System Flashcards
These are fabulous! These AR flashcards make the planets and solar system come alive on phones and tablets. These are app-based flashcards and my kids love watching planets come alive on screen.
Reusable Water-Reveal Colouring Book with Water Pen
Children love colouring. Scribbling on books with colours is something that all the kids enjoy. This reusable colouring book lets kids colour using their imagination and we don’t have to worry about the mess. My kids love this!
We also added some new books to their collection alongside these games and activities. I’ll be sharing about books in my next round-off blog. My only advice will be to buy things prudently for young kids since they get easily distracted. You may end up buying a million things for them but they will still be playing with the dead TV remote.
You don’t even have to spend a heavy amount of money to get things for your kids. If they didn’t like something, no matter how expensive it was, they won’t even look at it.
Your kids should be able to build a connection and association with their games and toys. Buy things that don’t cost much but last long.
